looking at a 1990 F150 XLT
Hi Guys,
I'm still looking at trucks. Now I'm back at the 1990 F150 XLT, auto. 4x4, Ext. cab, 5.8 liter, cruise control, power windows and doors. I would like to add a snow plow. Mileage is 190,000. There asking $2500.00 with plow, $1500.00 without. The trans, 4x4, engine all work well, it looks and feels like it has only 100,000 miles on it.
I will need to replace the gas tank, and FDM, brake rotor, power locks don't work it won't lock, windshield washer motor doesn't run, it also will need a muffler and an new exhaust pipe. I have $700.00 in saving for the repairs. I would like to keep it on the road for about 8 years. I can do most of the repairs that don't require any special hand tools. Do you think it's worth the money with this many miles? How much can I expect to pay to replace or rebuild my transmission down the road? Do transmission last over 200,000 miles?
Thanks, MIke

My only thought is that 1/2-tons don't do well with snowplows. Not that they don't work, it's just hard on the front suspension. If the truck has been used that way, I'd probably take a pass, and I'd also take a pass if you plan to use the truck for plowing more than the occasional driveway (like your own a half-dozen times a year).
