I completed the repair today. Simple job of two bolts and one o-ring. After that I completly flushed out the cooling system and filled it back up with Shell Rotella ELC.

How did you flush yours out? Where do you get the Rotella and what does it run on average a gallon?

Thanks Kwik

Actually it is the exact same stuff.

01Stroker:

When I bought my ELC I got it at the local Napa for right around $11 a gallon.

If you can't find it there, the OTR truck shops would be another good place to look.

You simply just flush out the system just like any old radiator system, but you do need to take care and make sure that all of the old stuff is fully removed. There's a nice tech article written up in the tech article section on this very universal proceedure.

Took the block drains out, opened the radiator drain. Once all the old coolant was caught, I stuck a water hose in the filler, let it run with the engine idling until clear. Drain it all out again, and fill it using distilled water and coolant 50/50.

I did the same thing...except I had to remove my degas bottle to clean out the mineral deposits that were in there. You may want to take a look at yours too.

LX,

What did you use to clean it out? An acid of some sort?

Dog,

Not a dumb question at all! Remember, we're all in this adventure together. There was a time that I didn't know the answer, either.

Crawl under your truck and look for the oil filter. To the rear of the aluminum filter adapter there are two plugs on the side of the block. The one closest to the adapter and closest to the pan rail is the crankcase inspection plug. That's not the one you want.

Now, a couple of inches farther up and back, there is another plug. It has a 1/4" square recess (on mine). Don't take it out until it's time to get wet! ;-)))

There's a corresponding one on the other side of the block which is a little harder to get to, but possible. It will look the same.

Acutally it came off easily with the water hose. I just put a spray head on the hose and it blasted it right off. It was mainly built up on leading edges of bends and such of the Degas bottle, so it came off easy.

The degas bottle is the one you pour your coolant and water into. I believe some are getting it from NAPA. Unless it has buildup in it just rinsing it out should be OK when you change.

Does anybody know the napa part number for the upper radiator hose that doesnt go through the fan belt? I looked on their site, but both said they go through and not around....?
