F-700 engine swap.

I would like to find some help for my ole man who is trying to swap out an engine in a 1983 F-700 dump truck. It has an 8.2 l 500CID detroit diesel engine with a 460 series allison automatic transmission. He is unable to get it to line up right. Perhaps one of you guys could give me a clue as to what is needed to get theses splines lined up correctly or perhaps you could send me in the right directions,so that I may get this info to him before he boils over. Thanks Nancy Lee

If he is installing a 8.2 into the truck he is kinda wasting effort as the engine will prolly be coming back out in a couple months to replace head gaskets. The 8.2 is the biggest POS you can buy if he is repowering the truck go with a 429 gas like the F-800 came with or a 7.8 Ford.

Hi Nancy Lee
I have to agree with Kenworth the 8.2 was a real good thing to stay away from. I am sure your father must have his reasons for wanting to carry out this swap but there should be no reason he cannot find anything needed to complete the swap. Hate to say this but most of the 8.2's made were used in Ford trucks - but then again where else would an engine build for trucks go if it wasn't a Ford.

he is not swapping a gas engine for the 8.2 he is simply replacing the 8.2 with another 8.2. so it is just a simple engine swap. he just wants to know how to get it to line up.

Make sure you get used to how the engine in and out really good as I meantioned that 8.2 piece of crap will be leaving parts on the road as you drive down the road.

As for lining the engine up make sure the engine is square to the transmission bellhousing. I never really put a Alision auto on a engine we really never use them in the excavation/construction business.

You have to describe what splines you are trying to line up ?
