2010 is the next emissions benchmark. As the International VP said...as soon as they launch the 2007 6.4 successfully....it's all hands working to 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if all the BIG three see significant changes yet again.

Take a wild guess! Ford has the lightning, dodge has the SRT-10, Chevy has SS. While yes that does sound far fetched, my nose is sniffing towards japan.
Wild guess about what? I could care less if it came from japan. I have yet to be impressed with ANY import truck, and I'll gladly stick my foot in my mouth if there is a 700 hp 1-ton truck capable of 15 mpg. Really, that defies the laws of physics. It takes a certain amount of energy to move a vehicle weighing a certain, and gasoline engines (this is if it's straight gasoline) just don't have the capablility of this. A diesel on the other hand....
This is of course the engine doesn't have some sort of displacement on demand system...
Actually, its pretty easy with todays injection systems and computer controls employing lean burn technology and cylinder deactivation. Considering that a modern gas combustion engine is only around 35% efficiency, there's a bunch of room for improvement. Obviously, it doesn't get this kind of fuel mileage pulling a max load.

I think your missing the point, I think its most certainly likely that such an engine is in the works (how much hp would a supercharger add alone?) and since a certain japanese brand is lets say, intent on being #1 in the truck market, I'd expect it to come japan since the big three are mostly about diesels now.
I did miss the point on that point, sorry. I figured I was, but I was in a hurry, and just ran with it. Although I think you're a little off with the gasser thing. If anything, Toy or Nissan will have a diesel in developement.
those tiny toyotas may have 400000 miles on them but they sure dont have a useable bed left, now do they. so whats the purpose of a pickup truck lasting 400000 miles?
The 4.4 is not a PSA effort. It is coming out of Turkey. It is already past pre-production and can be delivered as soon as tooling is complete- 6 months or less. It will come out somewhere around 300HP and close to 420 ft.lbs torque. It is cheaper and more compact than the V6 Navistar as it is an inhouse developement. Big Blue hasn't been asleep as we all thought these last few years on diesel developement. I doubt that it will ever see the SD series as there is a 6.7 on the drawing board for the SD. Figure 2-3 years developement.
Some more food for ya feast on. Look for a gas engine motor from another brand, V8, 8.0+ liters, 700 prox HP, 1000ft lbs torque and capable of 15 mpg in a 1 ton truck. It is in prototype already. It will not be for the average buyer and will not appear in a half ton truck. This is a truck engine.
........I would think the only feasible way to achieve those MPG figures would be to utilize the technology that shuts down 4 of the 8 pisstons when the computer senses a decreased load on the engine . sk
yeah i kno this is a dumb question. but just to be clear the 4.4 will come from int'l right?
If by "int'l" you mean International Truck and Engine Corp. the answer is no.

I'm doing my part to reduce food imports, control rising food costs and help feed the children, my trucks run on 100% petroleum diesel. What are you doing?
