Skinny tires vs wide for snow?

I was wondering what type of tire would be the best in the snow?im guessing a studded snow tire?but what about a tire that's wider like a 12.50 wide bfg vs a stock tire on snow and ice?Ill buy new tires if i have to but right now i have 35" bfg's that are 12.50 wide and wondering if they would be bad on snow and ice?what size tire do you run in the winter?

Hey swamprat, here's a current thread in the offroad forum that may help you here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=422611

A quick note, studs don't help with snow, but they do help with ice. Often the tires that perform well in snow don't do so hot on ice and vice versa so you kind of have to weigh that out. Also it depends on the kind of snow as will be pointed out in the thread I just linked. My personal opinion, I think the BFG's will be a great all around winter tire for you.

I run BFG AT, 33"x9.5"x15" year round on my '79 F150 4x4. They DO go thru snow, lots of it.
