unusual Clunk...

ok. i have a 03 XL 4.2L f-150 with about 25k miles. i bought the truck with 20k miles and have noticed this problem from day one. when i come to a stop, usually after traveling over 35mph(in overdrive) i noticed a clunk when i am about to stop(under 5mph). it is usually more violent when the distance of the stop is shorter.

after i have come to a complete stop, a jitter occures when the break pressure is released.

feels like a transmission problem

You might have a case of the common slip yoke binding disease.
The driveshaft slip yoke binds up on the splines of the output shaft of the transmission.
To see if that's the case you can remove the rear driveshaft and grease the splines in the slip yoke. Ford makes special Teflon grease for doing this but you can use any good quality grease to try it and see if that's the problem.

Possibly. You can check them when you pull the driveshaft out to grease the splines.

REPLACE the yoke, don't just lube, that'll only be a temporary fix (as little as 4-5 days).

well my clunk is the opposite . It happens when i am going from a dead stop and accelerating i had the slip yoke grease and unseazed from ford and it is still there! so I guess my only option now is to replace the yoke ????
