4X4 front shock mounts (78 F-150)
Hi guys,
Yesterday I finally got round to taking the front clip off my 78 and going to work on the cab mounts. The large hollow sections that are welded onto the cab itself were all but totally gone on both sides. Luckily I salvaged a pair from an old cab I had that oddly enough was good for little else. While I was at it, I decided it was time for new front shocks as well which was when I sadly found one of my shock mounts to be broken completely in two pieces. I'm just wondering if there is a source for these anywhere or if it's time to start fabbing up something to replace it. The original is so badly cracked I don't think it's worth trying to weld back together. The truck is a four wheel drive so the shock mounts are seperate units bolted onto the frame. Any thoughts, or past experience is most welcome.

They are not that tough to fab using 1/4 rect. tubing. Just make sure you cut out the side with the weld. I would not bother to (tack) weld the grade 8 hardware to the bracket for the shock since it weakens the bolt and I always seemed to melt the bolts I am welding more then I wanted. Which means they end up being at an angle.

Well, I took KubotaOrange76's advice and looked into the mounts from an 85-97 F-350. On the computer they looked identical so I ordered one ($20). When it came in, it was the type for a different suspension setup, not the one pictured. The one that came in was for the type of shock with bolt holes, top and bottom. They did some further checking and found that they couldn't get the type I needed. According to their computer it wasn't available anywhere..
So....now I'm off to the garage to make one from some square tubing. Shouldn't be too hard as long as I can get the bend angle right. If all goes well, I'll post a pic or two in my gallery. Thanks for the help.
