I'm considering buying a used 04' F-150 Supercab with a 5.4liter engine. What is the real-world fuel economy for this truck if driving 60-65 highway? Thanks.

I do, however, have lots of 2 lane winding country roads where those speeds are the average speed. I usually average 17. But I have a 2WD with a hard tonneau cover...if that makes any difference.

I bet I could see a bit better if I could go in a straight line for more than 20 miles.

 

I would use the low number of the EPA estimate as your "real world" high MPG. In my case (4x4 HD 5.4, 4.10 rear), I haven't gotten 14 mpg yet.

 

I have got 20 on the highway before but I average about 14 mixed driving.

 

I typically get 16 around town. I can get it to 18 on the highway.

 

I get 13 in town and 15-16 on the highway. I'm a very aggresive driver though. I drive my truck like it's a motorcycle.

 

i have a 2004 XLT supercarb 4X4 5.4L and i get about 13-14 city and abut 16 highway, if i am on the interstate going right at sixty on cruise controll i can get up to 20, but that doesnt happen much. It normally gets about 14 MPG

I've got the 3.55 in the rear (2004 5.4 supercrew). I've hit 22 on the highway with the air off and tailgate down with no headwind. I'll typically average 19-20 on the road (at 75 mph) and only about 13 in town, but I give it a fair amount of grief from every light! Running 60-65 would probably put me over 20 easy, but no way I'm going that slow for any distance.

 

16 in mixed driving (3.73's Lariat SuperCrew), sometimes close to 19 on long highway runs.

I did just get 14 to 15 towing a 6000 car and car trailer on long highway trip!

 

It has been scientifically prooven that driving with the gate down actually costs you gas milage.

I dont remember the exact details but its something to do with the way the bed will actually fill with a pocket of non moveing air and the rest of the air will flow over the tailgate. But when you drop the gate the bedsides work as two huge fins that distorte the air flow.

 

I seriously envy you guys getting 13 mpg. I do not understand how you guys get that, maybe it's just my truck, I average 12.4 mpg. I never go over 2 rpm on take off from a red light and I drive like a grandpa to conserve gas. Ac off or on does not make much of a difference nowadays, I read somewhere that it only changes gas mileage by .4%, and taking your foot off the gas is the big change at around 20 some percent, and also correct tire pressure...but whatever who cares, I just don't know how you guys get what I consider great gas mileage, y'all must live out in the middle of nowhere with no traffic lights.

I have a 04 scab FX4. I get 16-17 no matter how I drive. I drive 35 miles each way to work, mostly hwy....

 

15.4 on the dot in rural city driving. Usually around 19 on hwy. Hopefully my tuning will give better results. Also considering the Acetone idea floating around the internet. Had a friend go up 4 MPG with 3 oz acetone on a 94 Mustang.

 

I went to school with one of the O-linemen several years ago. He graduated from LSU back in '03. We went to high school toether and played basketball together. He graduated a couple of years before me and I started watching him and just fell in love with the traditions.

I've been at a private college in Mississippi for a while now but am considering going to LSU or UAB for my last two years and Med School. It just depends on who offers more money-if any.
