Engine wont start and CEL....

Hey all, new to this forum. I tried to do a search but no luck, so my apologies if this is a recurring issue.

Yesterday took my '97 power stroke (95k miles) in to repair a passenger side high pressure oil line, after only having it for about a month. Truck ran superb afterward and no more oil on the garage floor. Today on the way home, engine started to idle very rough, and after a few minutes threw a CEL. When CEL came on the engine suddenly began to run very smooth. After stopping at the store, and restarting, the engine shut off (after about 30 seconds). I could get it to start back up for about 30 sec at a time and then it would shut down again. Finally would run long enough to get it into the garage.

When at home I noticed a small (new) oil leak coming off the back left part of the engine(drivers side). Now the truck will not start up at all. I cannot identify exactly where the leak is just the basic area of the leak. I disconnected the battery terminals hoping to clear the CEL but had no luck. Will not turn over at all now, just keeps cranking.

Any help would be appreciated. This is my first diesel and I am baffled.

Thanks!

You might want to start by checking the electrical connectors and wiring on the engine. Check for pinched wires, a blown fuse or a low oil level. I suspect your problem is a result of the repairs that were done.

What he said.........
That CEL light will give you codes to help diagnose the problem.

this is what i think. and the new leak very well may be the large oil galley plug on the back of the head. check that.
