Hi guys, I'm new and was directed to this forum by ultramagdan. was looking for info on the vin of my f-1 but according to what mtflat has provided it appears as if i have a 1950 f-1 early bed. my vin is 97hc302949at. any other specs would be deeply appreciated and also is it possible to obtain a title for such an old beater? thanks again, walt

Walt the vin shows six cylinder (7H) and half ton (C), 1950 by the serial string and assembly at the Atlanta plant., (AT)

If you can find a stamping on the firewall/cowl it might give you color/plant/date/unit number/and sometimes dso info. Something like: 7RH12L6025 (my 48). I also have two trucks (48 and 52) with no firewall stamping, so good luck with yours.

Ditz, look on the top of the frame rail inside the engine compartment for the stamped serial number. Either side as it varied from plant to plant. Most are light stampings, so using a wire brush and a strong light canted to the side helps to locate this. Carl can give you more specifics between assembly plants.

I dabble in it as a hobby. Carl (texan2004) is the guy who's working to compile all the info into something more durable than my memory. He has also collected a broader base of info than I can keep track of and if he ever publishes it, it'll be the definitive work on early F series vins and line changes.

Ford lost all this info in a fire back in '67. So any of you that haven't posted your vins 48-50, please do so.

I am sorry to say that the engine compartment is very tight with small block MOPAR installed. ( bought it that way ) I do appreciate the thought though.

49,

Any chance you could get a shot of the firewall with an upgraded camera. I would be interested in getting a better read on the cowl stampings. Sorry it took so long to reply, Been out of town for a couple of weeks.

Rich,

Apologize for the long dealyed reply.

97HC 320819 CS

9 = 1949/50
7H = 226 CID flathead 6
C= 1/2 ton - F1
320819 = Vin sequ3nce number. Yoursis high enough I'd say it's a safe bet that it was built in 1950.

CS = Chester, PA assembly plant.

If you can find a number stamped on the cowl or firewall inside the engine compartment, it would be very helpful. I don't have many firewall stampings from Chester Trucks in the collection.

Thanks,

Carl

Ditz,

Even thoug you have one of those new fangled 1951 trucks with teeth in teeth in the grill I'll help you out.
F1R1HM65473

F1 = 1/2 Ton F1
R = 239 CID flathead V8
1 = 1951
HM = Highland Park, MI assembly plant
65473 = Sequence #

Not sure if the 51's were stamped on the firewall or not. would be intersted to know.

Please take a look at your firewall and cowl for any numbers stamped in there. In my collection of numbers, I have the following:

97HC 302953 AT - just 4 sequentail units higher than yours.

It belongs to fellow FTE member Bill50. Don't have the date I got this one but I do have a firewall stamping for it. I would be very intersted to see how the build date on yours copmares to Bill's. His was built on June 30, 1950. The build date is encoded in the firewall stamped numbers you have seen referenced on here. I would be very curious to see if yours was built on the same day or a day earlier, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Carl

97HC*331049*RIC

9 = 1949/50
7H = 6 cyl (H Series)
C = 1/2 ton F1
331049 = Vin sequence number (definitely a 1950)
RIC = Richmond, CA Assembly Plant

RHF1-10L5071 (Fire wall stamping)

RH = Richmond,CA Assemby Plant
F1 = 1/2 ton F1
10L = November 10, 1950 build date.
5071 = Uknown sequence number

The color code is missing. It should be where the dash is located inn the stamping.
The build date seems a bit late for the sequence number but we are still trying to sort all of this out how VIN numbers were assigned). I don't have a later Richmond 6-cylinder VIN with an earlier build date so for now, I will assume everything here jives.

Hope this helps.

BTW - my sister usd to live n Silverdale, WA. Looks to be only a few minutes away as the crow flies but an hour an half drive.

Carl, sure appreciate the information on my truck. I think that it great what you doing. The truck was red when my dad bought it back in 1955.

Don’t know when your sister left Silverdale but in the last couple of years it has been growing like crazy. Thanks again Mike.

VIN info

I'm a newbie -- needing info. My VIN per your questions is:
1. 1950
2. 98 RC 497821
3. Flat panel bed (with boards underneath)
4. Likely original, yet unknown
5. three speed, non-synchro 1st-Rev
6. Floor shifter
7. same as above with *NR* added after "VIN"

Now, can you tell me anything about this truck? When, where built? Engine model is it "H" or "R" model?

Also, since I'm new, can you suggest parts houses for simple things like oil plug gaskets, oil filters, air cleaners (whole unit with filter), etc.

Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm curious what you are learning about VIN's...

Herb
