Exclamation Y'all ain't never gonna believe this...

So I did my glow plugs today. Went ahead and replaced them all while I was in there. 132K on the clock, why not. Well, the driver side goes smooth, no real issues. Button that side back up, start on the passenger side, and man there is a ton of stuff in the way. Well, I finally get to the valve cover and unbolt it, remove it and set it aside. I got started disconnecting the glow plug connectors, and I see a strange couple pieces of metal between the front two cylinders' injectors...

It was a freakin rocker arm assembly!!!! Right underneath where the oil fill would normally be.

I about had a heart attack because I thought I might have a broken rod, or I might have broken something loose taking the cover off. After a second look, all the rocker arms and rods and everything are fine, this one was extra. I guess it's been laying there for the 95000 miles since the last time the valve covers were taken off the truck. Which incidentally was by a Ford mechanic at a dealership.

How the hell do you miss something like that? What really boggles my mind is how the heck didn't that thing move around?!?!?! In that 95000 miles, I've done a lot of off road driving, bouncy roads, and who knows what else.

I guess I got lucky this time. I took out my extra presents from either International or the dealer mechanic, and finished up the job. Overall not too bad.

I wonder what the dealer would have said if something went wrong? Probably would have just blamed you for leaving parts in there and voided any repair work. Like they say sometimes it's better to be LUCKY than GOOD!

Believe it or not I found an extra (broken) rocker when replacing the valve cover gasket on the gf's 1993 Daytona.

Do it right, do it once (perhaps twice if you try to run more than 14psi on stock rods, or if you don't read the instructions properly).

I don't even know what to think PSD Bill. I don't know if I'm livin right, but I'm dang sure gonna play the Lottery next week

I wish I could have gotten a picture, but I don't have a digital camera, and I couldn't find my regular camera. I was half tempted to wait and have a buddy bring his over, but it was gettin' towards dark and I did NOT want to put that engine back together with no light.
