I wonder when Ford will put out the final shots of this truck. I was planning on getting an '06 this april/may. Hopefully, they'll be out by then, so I can decide if I should wait or go ahead and get the '06. Although, buying an '07 would go against my rule of never buying the first year of a vehicle make over.

By the way, captain p4, that's an awfully nice avatar shot you have on your profile!

I have 190K on a 5.4 triton with the only problem being a couple of broken exhaust manifold bolts. I like the 7.3 and the 4.9 I6, but my GF's 5.9 cummins has all of them beat. she has 250K miles and no major problems with the motor. The transmission lost 5th once, but other than that no problems, and we just had it turned up...and man alive that thing runs, and this is from a died in the wool ford guy. My family has owned 2 psd's along with a laundry list of ford products ranging from an escort, all the way to an expedition, with everything in between. In fact the only motor I have seen go anywhere near as long with no real deterioration in performance is the 5.4 in the 98 f150.

nowadays, it seems like no matter what brand you buy, theres less consistent quality. No exception to dodge cumming, I,ve seen e'm blow up. Same with psd, and 6.6 duramax.
Any diesel engine should get good miles. my 1989 7.3 got 27mpg(empty) and pulled like a molested goat, and it was at 460k when it got parked due to tranny problems.
I havent seen many high mileage trucky lately, mabye because everyone trades them up every year.

What would trading up have to do with anything? Just because somebody trades up their vehicle its not like that truck sits on the dealers lot for the rest of its life. Many diesel trucks in particular don't sit long on a lot, they are in high demand ( around here anyways) There are lots of Fords Dodges and Chevys, all with high miles. IMO, a vehicles engine longevity is all on the owners shoulders. Depending on how the vehicle is driven, what it is used for, proper maintence, etc. As long as these are not abused or neglected a vehicle should perform well.

youre right

I guess what i'm trying to say is that not many people these days (especially young people)
care for vehicles like people used to. It seems to be the trend to trade every year or two, making no sense with the diesel option, and also , the average vehicle gets more miles/year than years ago, with less people checking fluids, pluggin in when cold, etc

I'm with you on the final shots. I plan on ordering an '06 SD in mid March since the order cut-off date for MY'06 is April 7th, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing some real good pics of the '07.

Then again, the rebates on '06 SD sure are pretty right now!

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and get mine ordered here in the next week or so too. I'm sure they'll raise the price of the '07 anyway, and the '06 I want is expensive enough!!
