4.6 intech to 5.4 parts interchange
ok, fellas i got me a problem. my dad has a brand new, complete aluminum DOHC 4.6 sitting in the original crate. Im trying to talk him into letting me have it. only problem is, is that its an intech 4.6 so it is for front wheel drives vehicles. i know it isnt possible to use the block because of the motor mounts and some other things but would it be possible to go get a 5.4 short block and put all the intech parts on it. and with this conversion what would need to be bought besides the 5.4 shortblock. if this is possible my plan is to throw the dohc heads on the 5.4 and throw a nice sullivan intake on it with a big ol demon carb. put some 5 speed behind it and strap it to my 1958 f100. any comments or suggestions would be awesome.

well the intech would be a lincoln motor. none of these motors are for front wheel drive cars so i am not sure where you got that from. also there is not way you cn run a carb on the engine.

The engine was ordered for a Lincoln Continental ,which the insurance company decided to fix but backed out later on and left this brand new engine in the crate, so im pretty sure it isnt for rear wheel drive considering all Continentals were front wheel drive. and check out www.sullivanperformance.com if im not mistaken thats a carb sitting on that 4.6 manifold. maybe im wrong.

The part you are referring to in the Sullivan pic is a TBI set-up.
Continental has been FWD for over 10 years now. Dad's got one.
The LS and Towncar are still RWD.
Edit:Noticed that the Continental was discontinued in '02 , but it was a FWD car then.

Yeah, the Continental is a FWD car.
If you get a complete 5.4 shortblock, theoretically, you can move the heads over, and you'll need a Navigator or aftermarket intake.
The real question is - is the timing cover going to work? Are timing chains/guides/gears all the same between a "normal" 5.4 and the 4-valve 4.6? What about accessories?
Here's an even better idea: Sell the engine on Ebay (just the heads should get some $'s) and use the money to buy what you KNOW will work. A Navigator 4-valve 5.4L engine would work great in an old truck.
