22mpg with a 4x4?!? I have to give you props for that. My Bronco struggles to get 18-19 on the freeway (which is already better than its 17mpg EPA rating).

yea theres still more mpg to be found. so far my mods to the engine are a throttle body spacer, mac products cold air intake and a underdrive pulley kit. i also only drive about 60-65 on the highway to get those kind of #'s. by the way, i put that xtane junk into the tank this weekend on my way to michigan and back, mileage jumped up to just a tiny bit over 23.5. not too bad at all, that number will probably increase a bit more as all the carbon deposits are cleaned away.
about the truck havin 125k miles on it, i had the engine remachined for free when i bought it back in september of 04 cause a valve blew about 15 days after i was driving back from getting it registered. that was at about 109k miles so its still got plenty of life left

The truck currenty gets 22 mpg on the highway @ 60-65 mph. it has a few mods, intake, raised throttle body, and underdrive pulley kit. it pulls about 1700 rpms going 60, and 1900 going 70. i do a lot of highway driving and what i was wondering is if i put 3.23 gears into it, would i see an increase in my mpg at those highway speeds? also would i have to put a set of the 3.23's into the front differential as well in order to keep the 4x4 system functional?
Hate to be a downer but something smells fishy here. The numbers do not add up.

It does seem a little high, but I've gotten 22 at over 70 mph (avg) with a half decent load a few times. Mines only 2wd, but it's an ext. cab, so the weight is close to a draw. Same gears, but with his taller tires/mods and w/ a lighter load I don't see it being impossible. I too would find much over that pretty hard to believe though.

BTW Keyul: I believe your truck came w/ a 70 series tire from the factory.

The MPG claims, what do you think?? I do not think the you can realistically get the HP requirements low enough at crusie for that kind of MPG in that 4x4 unless you have a very strong tail wind or draft behind semi's and even then it would be iffy. I would buy 19 or 20 on a good day maybe but this is stretching it.

i have a toneau cover on the back, truck cruises at 1600-1800 rpms at 60-65. i have a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and an underdrive pulley kit which signifigantly reduces the load on the crank that it takes to run accessories. i also use royal purple motor oil which increases gas mileage and hp 1-3%. i might not be at the truck peak torque curve cruising these speeds but if i take the over drive off, it goes up to 2500-3000 rpms which uses more gas, regardless of what the torqu curve is. i did a test between the two, i have my numbers from turning the overdrive off on the previous page. yea the numbers may seem hard to believe but i take care of my truck, i changed my driving habits signifigantly, and i have the upgrades on there that allow me to achieve the numbers i get. and when i put a fuel additive in my tank on a trip of near 800 miles the ruck averaged 23.5 mpg. and please tell me what amount of horsepower do you think i need to achieve these numbers???

Usually the biggest factor in poor gas mileage is your driving habits. try accelerating slower, taking more distance to brake, and driving slower on the highway. other things could be you could use a new air filter, fuel filter, maybe your MAF or oxygen sensor need to be replaced, you could have clogged injectors, too much carbon build up in your engine, underinflated tires etc.

fuel injectors can be checked by checking fuel pressure right? i just dont see how that guy is getting 22 mpg! that is almost 1/2 of what i am getting. if the problem is with the fuel injectors, how much of an improvement will that make approxiamtely?

do i just pick up some fuel injector cleaner, or replace them?
how much do injectors cost?
sorry, lots of info i just gave, just want to be certain. im sure ill have more questions
