I am in the process of replacing the factory radio with a simple aftermarket one. I have purchased the wire adapter that fits my truck. After hooking up the adapter and installing the unit it I get no sound from the speakers. I have tested the new unit with a separate speaker and it has single on all outputs. Is there a factory amp? If so can someone tell me where I can find it?

That is what I would be looking for...or to just bypass the factory amp and wire direct yourself. You said you had gotten the adapter for the wiring. Go back to where you got it from and ask for the one that adapts for a factory amp. Try it right there before you leave to make sure all works.

From what I have seen before, the factory amp usually is buried up and front of the dash.

 

instead of bypassing the factory amp hook the blue wire to a keyed power source and the amp will work and you will have sound again. had the same problem with an old Explorer I had. The blue wire runs the amp though. Good Luck
