just wondering, anyone else here scrap? if so, whats it payin ya? we're gettin 70 a ton for tin right now here. been stuck with my old chevy beater since the interior of my 88 went up in flames. she pulls like nothing, but i like the assurence of knowin i got 4wd in the ford if i need it.

 

I haven't been hauling for a bit, but I like the sound of that price, got to go get a load of gas tanks again, so hope it holds that way for a bit. Needing some money like usual right now anyway... might have to work a little harder getting some hauling done...

 

how does ur local recycler like gas tanks? i know fineburgs, they got to be off the cars, and they got to have holes in them. how bout u?

 

I make them run them over with the payloader so there is no question they are empty. I can get by just punching holes in the tank, but I also want more of a load. Funny thing is, I can't haul back up to Marengo, I take them to Hamilton, Il, and they don't question it a bit, they are happy to take them. They can take the car whole, with tires and all, from what I have seen and they say, but I rarely haul anything intact, usually stripped, and being I am so used to having to pull tanks and tires, I just do it to be sure. They take appliances at tin price as well, gotten a lot of cleanup done that way. Couldn't get rid of them around Marengo either... I make the yard I am hauling for pay my fuel, so all I have in it is my driving time. I also bring about 7000 pounds worth of tanks or appliances... makes it more worth the drive...

 

yeah, that sounds pretty good. what do you haul it with? feinburgs accepts appliances as tin too.

 

My 86 Ford diesel and 40' flatbed that has stock gates tied ont to contain the tanks. The deck is 34', but it is a goose. Trailer can handle more, but my scale weight is right at 20,000 pounds, so the ol' 3/4 ton is pushing it for handling it, it gives the ol'beast a workout, but it hauls it just the same. Last load they had me heavy on the front, not a good ride home, beat the heck out of me. Nice thing about it is I don't have to unload it by hand either, it's all mag unloaded, and they generally load me there, so I don't have to destroy what is left of my back to load and unload, back to Marengo, I'd have to unload by hand. BTW, the trailer is pictured in my gallery, not a real good pic, but it is there. Used to be a 6 horse inline trailer with a camper. Had to give up the camper inorder to get enough deck to haul 2 cars.

 

shoot, wish i had a trailer like that one. im stuck with two car traillers. ones a 15 by8 and the others a 18 by 8,plus, there bumper pull so i can get stuff in the bed.

 

Thing is, it takes a pretty good truck to pull it, the trailer alone weighs 7000 pounds. By the time you add 2 cars, fully assembled, it can get to another 7-8000 pounds. That trailer is the main reason I have my 86, otherwise, I would have just stayed with my extended cab 1/2 ton.
