Modified '88 I6 F-150 vrs. STOCK 350 Chevy 1500

I have an 88 ford f-150. I have 4 inch lift with 33' tires. I have 4.10 gears. The motor is a 300 I-6 bolted to a 4 speed tranny. My buddy has a completely stock Chevy with a 350 in it. It is automatic. He thinks his truck would pull mine? Any comments?

Do you have mud or all terrain tires, what kind of tires is he running? I am running an 84 F150 4wd I6/4spd with a 2.5" suspension lift, 33" mudders, 4.10 gears, locker in the rear, and an LS in the front. I hooked up to my buddy's 84 Chevy with a built 350, 38" swampers, 4.10 gears, and 8" of lift. When we got the strap tight and started pulling, I held him and he held me! We both just sat there and dug holes! If I can hold a heavily modified Chevy in a tuggawar, you should be able to drag him like he's not there! The biggest thing is you need to find the right gear combination where you will have strong pulling power on the low end and be able to get decent wheel speed. I did very well in low range/2nd gear. Most importantly traction is everything. Is he 2wd or 4wd? I think you can take him, you have a good set up in your truck, I know because I have the same set up in my truck and it works awesome! Good luck!

I'm a Ford guy, but I say fogetaboutit. Every 300 I-6 I've ever owned never had a chance against a much larger V-8. People can brag all they want about their 4.9. I've always felt they were missing 2 cylinders, as any other gas 6. If you think I'm wrong, I have a stock Bronco I'll put up against any N/A 6 cylinder.

I'd say, throw about 1000lbs of sandbags in the back, and go for it! He'll start spinning, and you'll walk away.

Edit: This is a good way to break things. If this is your daily driver or something you need to use (cant afford to break) I'd forget about the whole thing.

Please compare the max torque of both engines, and then reconsider. Even the 302 Ford has a higher torque output then the 300. Some 350's put out a respectable number. Unless the 300 is a full boogie engine with 4 barrel, cam, headers, head work, gears, etc, only luck and driving skill will win it for the 300.

Hey STEVEF100s I won the pull. He didnt even have a chance! I pulled him like a trailor. His was running normal not missfiring, or any other excuse for losing. And for the comment that you'll hook up to any 300? My buddy has a 300 in a 83' f-150 4x4 stock with swamper tsl's that pulls things that a john deere 7800 tractor cant pull. He said any place any time!

Hey brother.....I'm glad you won . I'm pretty sure my Bronco could win a pull against your friend, but can I bring a John Deere 7800 instead? For money?
Maybe I should look up a 7800 first. lol

Kids haha, when will ya'll learn.

I've only hooked ot one truck other than to pull it out of a ditch.

And that's cause someone said it can't pull. I drug him. No excuses, the power came on off idle. He was turnin 5k. My truck reg cab long bed,300 with cam and smog crap removed ,locked at both ends, 4.10's 4X4 Granny 4spd. His 93 1500 4X4 350 700R4, 3.55's stepside with 500lbs in the bed of his.

I'm not breakin my truck to prove to someone i'm a better man. ha, don't have to ask my gf

It says where I live by my name. My Bronco has a 5.8 with 31x10.5's. Oh yeah. It's an ex Southern Bell phone vehicle. It has lockers front and rear, and it never spins. Not even on wet roads. If your buddys hitch is higher then mine, I would rig up a hitch at the same height as his. Fair is fair. A Bronco weighs about 5000 lbs. Still so confident?

He asked if you know where the title is for the bronco, he could use a good beater. His f150 is a heavy half ton which ways more than your bronco. He has cut swamper tsl's. He drug a log that stood 40" tall and 28 feet long up hill without 1. power loss, and 2. spinning.

HaHaHaHaHa.......Very funny . The heavy in "heavy half" has nothing to do with the weight. Trust me. The weights are very close. Who cares about swamper tsl's. I can get some tires too, and I'm pretty sure that log didn't pull back. I would keep whatever parts I could use, and sell the rest, along with the 300 engine.......FOR SCRAP!!
