Using Dyed Diesel for on road use

I just read an another board that they are going to start allowing us to buy and use the dyed diesel that is normally used for farm vehicles and school busses in our on road diesel trucks to try and give us a break on fuel costs. I have some questions about using this fuel that some of you might have the answers to:
1. Will my 7.3 operate on this fuel with no harmful effects?

2. Do I need to change out any fuel or oil filters if I run this fuel on the road?

3. I have Hypertech Power Programer III in my 2000 7.3 . Is it compatable with this fuel, and is this "chip" any good?

4. My final question is probably the most important one: Where can I but this dyed fuel in the Dallas Texas area, and what should I pay for it per gallon?

Thanks, I just joined and this is my first post, so please be gentle, this is my first time.

First, Welcome to FTE! you will spend hours here and it will be the best time spent on your PSD!

Now, I think the post you read was something that came about as a tempory fix for the shortage caused by Katrina and it was only by the Feds. You would still have to deal with the state. The dyed fuel has no road taxes applied. There is no way the state will let that money go. The fuel is #2 diesel, so no, you would not need to do anything special to run it. Lastly, contrary to popular opinion on this site, the new (less than 2 years old) Hypertech Programmer III is a decent tuner. I have been running one for a year and love it. I don't think it makes as much power as some of the other ones, but it is very good for not making your PSD run too hot (EGT's). I like mine, but will eventually upgrade to a flip chip for easy changes and more HP.

PS I think it is a $10,000 fine if you get caught running the dyed farm fuel on the highway.

$2.00/gallon at Kincheloe Oil off of Harry Hines and Royal. I believe it is on Satsuma Road. I read aan addendum from the Internal Revenue Service staing that the died fuel is already being used on-road.

Dyed Diesel Fuel

1. On September 2, 2005, the Internal Revenue Service temporarily suspended the prohibition on dyed diesel fuel sold for use or used on the highway, as long as the federal tax is paid. The prohibition has been extended to October 5, 2005. Will the Comptroller's office also extend the state's prohibition?

The Comptroller continues to support the Hurricane Katrina relief action by extending the state's suspension on the prohibition of the taxable sale and use of dyed diesel fuel.

2. Will dyed diesel be sold tax free at the terminal rack?

Dyed diesel fuel will continue to be sold to licensed suppliers, permissive suppliers, and distributors tax free at the terminal rack. Suppliers, permissive suppliers, and distributors will be required to collect state motor fuel tax on dyed diesel fuel sold to unlicensed purchasers. Taxable sales of dyed diesel fuel are reported on line 20 of the monthly motor fuels tax return.

Licensed dyed diesel fuel bonded users and signed statement purchasers will continue to purchase tax free dyed diesel fuel for exclusive off-highway use. Cities, counties and state agencies that have a dyed diesel fuel bonded user license may use dyed fuel in highway vehicles and remit the tax directly to the Comptroller's Office.

3. What documentation is required?

Persons selling for use or using dyed diesel fuel in on-highway motor vehicles will be required to show proof that the state motor fuels tax has been paid.

I've been told by a Ford diesel tech that he has seen 4 or 5 of the new Power Strokes (6.0) in the last year come in for ruined injectors, every one with dyed fuel in the tank. Does not make sense to me, anyone else heard of this?

I haven't heard of any problems. If you would see that dye you would understand how it could cause a problem. That stuff is thick and nasty before it gets diluted in the fuel.
