Can you use a Ford 460 164T Flywheel with a 428 Crank???

I would love to have an SFI approved Flywheel for my 428! I thought that I would throw that out there. The 460 is a hell of a lot cheaper then the 428 SFI stuff.

Here is the link to it:

I don't see why not, as long as you balance it. I don't know much about bolt patterns on the crank flanges though. I assume that they are the same.

The 428's are all externally balanced with the flywheel. So you will for sure have to get the two balanced as an assembly, it it will bolt up. I have no idea if it will bolt up though.

Bear,
I'm about ready to do a Balance job on my 428. But I will have to do a change up on my Flexplate. I have a new Pioneer but it isn't SFI Approved! I hate to say this but I dont want to spend $400!

I always used the Ford stock flexplates for my CJ's, even in my auto race car. Did break it once, but that was 4 year of street and strip use and by then the motor was no longer stock (406 tri-power and headers and an aftermarket Crane cam). Of course the 4.30 rearend didn't lessen the abuse either.
