Fuel Pumps

On my 1986 Ford F150 302 Fuel injected, do both Fuel Pumps in each tank have to work for truck to start (not including the rail, rail must work) Didnt know if they both work together on one anothers tanks

The switch selects which one the voltage goes to. Only one is used at a time. There is usually a valve along the frame rail that also selects which fuel line is used.
