well guy's, heres my story. i also posted a new thread "for those of you with 4'' lifts"

i have a f-350, that i put a leveling kit on and now it sits level. i have new 33' tires, and i want to go higher. my neighbor and friend both have procomp 4'' lifts. i have researched all weekend, and am going with Donahoe's 4.5'' shackle drop lift, with 5100 bilsteins. i am eventually going to get 35'' tires to fill the wheelwells. i also am going with dual steering stabilizers, but single shocks. so far, the cheapest i have found (excluding the steering stabilizers), is $1145. is this a good price? seems like alot, for no springs included. my truck sits about 1'' lower in the front, so i am thinking i can get the 4.5'' front lift and get 4'' blocks to level the back. when they say "4'' blocks" on the rear, my F-350 already has 4'' stock blocks. so is the new one a 8'' block, or one that you stack ontop of the stock block? thanks guys.

On my old '01 F350, I started out with the Fabtech 5.5" lift. I found out the hard way that the springs on that lift are designed to settle, making it roughly a 4.5" lift. So, a few months later, I removed that lift and put on the Superlift 6" select series setup. Tires were 37x13.50-17 on 17x9 wheels. With the Fabtech lift, the tallest tire I could fit without fender trimming or a body lift was a 35x12.50. I never had any problems with the Superlift setup at all on that truck.

Ive got Dick Cepek 315 65 16 on stock rims and stock lift and 3.73 gears. I like it a lot and dont see why people say they need a 4" lift to clear 35s. My tires only rub when I turn hard right and back up. It rubs the leaf springs so nothing damaging and doesnt seem to wear on the tires after 25,000 miles. I love the fun country tires. Would buy another set. With this in mind could I put 37s on with a 4 in lift? say 37x13.50 or 14.50? I will be adding 16x10 rims also. I really like the way the Harley truck looks with the 38s and the 8in lift but Im spending all my $$ on my 79 project. Some help please.

My previous Ford.

1 Pro comp lift
2 pro comp extremes 37'
3 fox shocks, dual on front
4 I bought the truck with 13000 miles that way. It had been a repo. I guess the previous owner put all his/her money into the truck vs the payments.... LOL

That was part of the problem with that truck. I was told it was a 4 when I bought it, but called BS to that. Four wheel parts ran the part # and said it was the pro comp 6.5 lift, with the 37's. I sold that truck and now have a stock f350 4z4 cc long bed. I do miss that color and truck though as it turned heads. It just wasnt meant for towing the big 5th wheel I was buying.

Sandratt,
do you think the 4" would have worked with the tires?

Not. Not for 37s. They had to cut some fender for those tires. I knew enough buying it that it wasnt a 4. Had I considered it better I would have had them lower it to a 4 with 35's. There is a place near my house that buys late model rigs and lifts them. I fell for the bitchen looking truck and regretted it a bit later for what I wanted. The truck itself was awesome though. With 4 and 35's you can tow a 5'r. i was told I can get up to 4 with my new truck and the 5th wheel we just bought will fit. I dont know, I'll see about that. I want maximum power and milage now.

I guess its hard for me to understand why 315 65 16 (35x12.50x16) fit on my stock suspension truck with no fender trimming and it requires a 6" lift to accomodate 2" taller tires at the same width. Im not doubting you I just want to know why.

315 65 16

STGFord what truck are fitting the 315 65 16 on you 1979 project ? I also had this tire rim set up on my 2002 stock 4X4 they hit all the time I was told they will clear with a 2 inch lift.
I am now running a 6.5 inch lift I wish I went the 4 Inch lift.

no no my 04 F250 Extended Cab V10 with stock rims. Mine rub very little and deffinately not enough to justify a lift. A buddy of mine is running BFG 35x12.50x16 on 16x10 rims and they do rub alot but not to where its undriveable.
Marv,
what size tires are you running with your 6" lift?

the pics of my truck is in my gallery. check it out if you want. I like the fender to be full of tire. I dont like 2 feet of space between the top of the fender and the top of the tire. Im not going to cut my fenders so I need the smallest lift possible to put 37x12.50 or maybe 38x14.50 which I know will change things

37 Or 38

37 OR 38 WITH A 6.5 INCH LIFT I ASKED IF I COULD RUN 38 INCH TIRES I GOTTEN MIXED ANSWERS ABOUT DOING THIS IF YOU DONT BOUNCE THE TRUCK HARD 38 SHOULD CLEAR BUT ON THE SAFE SIDE I GOING WITH THE 37 INCH IF YOU REGEAR 456 WITH 37 IS CLOSE TO RUNNING WITH STOCK 3.73 GEARING IT IS LITTLE LOWER BUT NOT MUCH, 38 INCH WILL ALSO WORK.

BUT AFTER DRIVING AROUND WITH THE 35 AND 4.56 I LIKE THE LOW END SO MOST LIKLY I WILL REGEAR WITH 4.88 TO KEEP THE LOW END PULL THIS SET UP IS ABOUT THE SAME AS RUNNING STOCK TIRE WITH 4.10 GEARS.

GAS MILAGE STILL SUCKS SO MITE AS WELL GET SOME POWER OUT OF THE TRUCK SOME ONE ON THIS WEB SITE THEY GET THE SAME GAS MPG WITH 4.10 AND HIS BUDDY RUNNING 3.73 GEARS.

OH YEA HOW WIDE THE TIRE IS MAKE A BIG DEAL IF THEY ARE GOING TO RUB.
