86 Ranger 2.3 Firing Order???

yaya, I know.I shoulda labeld them.I thought I did keep track of the order, and with only 4 wires thought I had it.Was doing too much at the same time and got distracted.
The Haynes manual cant be right either.Anyone know the correct order? The Haynes manual states number #1 is bottom Right, then going clockwise.Cant be because all Ive found so far on the net for other 2.3L models, the order seems to be 1-3-4-2,with #1 starting bottom LEFT,then going clockwise.I'm confused.Any info is appreciated.Thanx.

My Chilton's shows it as: #1, bottom left, then, going clockwise, #3, #4, #2

The Haynes manual shows it basically the same way, it's just that the illustration is a bit confusing. Turn the book sideways and look at it.

But to be sure, turn your engine so the timing mark is at TDC (on the compression stroke) and see where the rotor points.

thanx...I knew I should probably either turn the book sideways or the truck.lol.was easier to move the book.lol...turning the rotor was next...the truck was my dads old truck.inherited it,his Harleys and a early 50s Indian Chief.never had a problem with it,til now.he bought it new in 86.all he ever owned were Fords.the wifes been driving it lately because of the gas prices,it being 4cyl and her Astro is just a gashog.she kept telling me it was dieing alot at intersections.I drove it only on weekends and it never did it to me.Anyways,it was time to change the oil this last week,so I changed the oil/filter,air filter, and decided to change plugs and wires also.thought only 4 wires I didnt need to label,I just changed em one at a time.screwed up somewhere.then wouldnt start at all.went to Haynes book and thats when I noticed the difference in their picture and what I found when I gooogled my info.So.Thanx for the help.

It only dies when she drives it? Sounds like a problem with the biological interface, perhaps the truck was built to be male-specific...

You went there, not me,especially if I want to keep the peace around my house...funny thing is,when we went to get the parts at the autoparts store, there was a girl who asked if I needed help and I said not yet.2 seconds later when a older man came up to counter and I stepped forward and we got our stuff and left.I never noticed I did that, was probably habit or something.I grew up around my dads autoparts store and the only women we had around were delivery drivers. Some made it to the counter, but not too many.the ones that did were the pretty blondes that the guys liked coming into the store to see probably.Anyways, out in the van,the wife brought it up that she had noticed that I had did that.I made the dumbest analogy about how if I was a woman I wouldnt walk up to a man at one of the beauty counters at the department store when out to get cosmetics.I wouldnt.but still.worst part was,the dude gave me the wrong stuff and I had to go back to exchange and she was the only one there.I never told the wife.......

1-3-4-2.

Since the engine has a distributor, you can really make any terminal on the cap correspond to the #1 cylinder. Just line up the cam and crank timing marks (which will indicate when #1 cylinder is at TDC) and note which terminal the rotor is pointing at. The rotor on these motors turns clockwise if I recall correctly.
