Roll top cover repair
The spring reel went south in my Pace Edwards roll top cover, since the cover no longer stays tight on the reel when retracting. I've ordered another spring reel from the factory, due to arrive in a few days, and I'm looking for any insight on replacing it. I'm not going back to the dealer who sold it to me , since they employ some careless gorillas, and I'm not going through damage claims again.
How tough is this replacement going to be? If it's like winding up window shades, I may be in for some serious bloodletting. Has anyone done this repair, and can you provide some tips learned?
Tanx.

Well, apparently no one has changed this reel before, so here I am answering my own post.
I followed the included instructions which stated that I should remove the rails and canister from the truck and prop the whole gizmo on a table long enough to support the cover when it's unrolled. Since I have a folding 8 foot pick-a-nick table in my basement, I dragged that out and set the canister on our regular outdoor table to change the reel. It really isn't that hard to do, but while I was working on it, I felt that I really didn't have to remove the whole thing. The only difficult part encountered if you left everything mounted in the truck would be re-installing the bolts that attach the reel to the canister, as they're between the canister sides and the truck bed, but a solution to that may be a mirror and a light to line up the reel with the bolt hole.
If there's a next time for replacing this reel, I'm going to leave the thing installed and go from there.
Tune in in about 3 or 4 years.
