I know the y block has solid lifters but can you get roller rocker arms for the y. What other high performance parts are out there im looking to totally rebuild my 292 when i come back from Iraq. I'm planning on putting about 8 grand total in my 64 step side. I want to keep it mostly original but with some upgrades to the motor.

 

Roller rockers, aluminum, are available from Rocker Arm Specialties. Also look at www.ford-y-block.com for other performance items. Aluminum 4v intake, aluminum flywheel, increase your intake valve size, and even stroke the motor. The problem is dollars. You could probably put the biggest portion of the 8K in the motor alone. So pick and choose.

We've hashed this subject ad nauseam. Try doing a search.

Zero-deck the pistons. Install Mummert's 1.84" intake valves. Get a 312 cam or similar. Get a ECZ-B iron intake, and a Holley, Edelbrock, Autolite or similar carb. Buy a new distributor from AutoZone.

Not so much a smart-*** as trying to encourage forum members to perform due diligence prior to posting. We don't mind discussing performance tuning, but we'd rather not plow the same ground over and over.

Again, I'd encourage you to do a search because there's more to learn from other people's posts.

BTW, what transmission do you have?

 

It's got a 3spd in it. I plane on keeping it that way. I'm gonna keep it as original as possible with a few performance upgrades.

I hear what you're saying about originality. I'd be sure to stay real mild with the cam. With that 3sp transmission, you'll want to preserve the low-end torque. Those heads are very closed-chamber designs and they'll respond to the zero-deck technique.
