shampoo seats and carpet

So i rented the rud doctor from the g store and spent all day cleaning the seats and carpet. it came really clean but since i am so picky it wasnt clean enough. and didnt smell like i wanted it to. it seems like every truck i own always has some funk smell in the cab. it gets cleaned and no bottles food etc left in it. although i might let a fart in the seats every once in a while. the truck kinda smells musty. i want the clean fresh air smell and i dont knwo what else to do to get it that way. i havent taken the carpet out yet nor the seats. if i did take the carpet out could u have if dri cleaned? so wht does it take to really get the interior clean?

You can put a couple of dryer sheets under the seats

How hard is it to remove the carpeting and reinstall the carpeting?

I also have the musty smell in my truck, but since I am the second owner, I don't really know what the first guy did to cause the smell.

before you shampooed the carpet were there any appearent wet spots? Could be that sometime someone left a window open when it rained and the seat(s)/carpet got wet which is causing the smell? The cabs on the superduties are pretty watertight (at least on mine).... I know the cleaner that you use in the shampooers can make a difference. From past experience try to use very little soap because the soap attracts the dirt! I havent smelled any funky smells in my truck, but i use air vent freshners, and i clean my air vents out with a small vac, and air compressor air.

How exactly do you clean cloth seats with a shampooer? If it was rain that is causing the smell in my cab wouldn't the rain have soaked deep into the seats. And how deep would the shampooer be able to clean? Would it be better to wait until the spring time too to do this, so that it would be warmer and more of the water from the shampooer would be able to be dried up quicker instead of just kind of sitting there.

How exactly do you clean out your vents?
Does anyone know how much it would cost to say just replace the carpeting inside the cab?
Thanks again for all the help/input/advice.
James

First I would vacuum the rugs & seats “real good” /w a strong vacuum because that is vary important then do a carpet extraction. One thing you don’t want to do is use lots of water because you want the rugs to dry out real quick if not then mold can develop which smells and is toxic.
Ozone machines are real good for getting smells out of cars. It takes about a day to do this

frebreeze is good stuff but it's best to remove the course of the odors then to hide odors.

There doesn't necessarily have to be a noticeable wet spot ON the carpet for there to be water underneath them, as I have noticed. While running wires from the HU to an amp, I pulled up the carpet on the front passenger side and it is wet, apparently it is common with my truck; I never noticed a musty odor, however, until I pulled up the carpet.

It is definitely best to do this on a hot day, so everything can dry promptly. The carpets don't need to be drycleaned but you can take them to a carpet cleaning place that has an onsite facility and they will clean them with an upholstery tool; one advantage is that they will have disinfectants/odor neutralizers they can spray on it.

Those 'tree' air fresheners work. I've smoked cigars in my truck, every day, for over a year and it does not smell like smoke in it, keep using some form of air freshener and replace it every week or two, it will eventually smell better, barring an underlying cause that hasn't been fixed.

One thing I do to keep the truck smelling nice is use Ozium air freshener. Have the engine warm and turn on the A/C to recirculate with the heat all the way up and the fan on high. Now spray a liberal dose of ozium throughout, makeing sure you spray it under the dash also so it gets in the vent. system. Close it up and let it run for 10-15 min. (don't sit inside while doing this ) Turn it off, close it back up and let it sit as long as possible, preferably in the sun. Then air it out a little.

Dryer sheets or a good smelling bar of soap work well as a constant source. When the soap stops smelling good, take it out use it to shower to get off the outside layer off, let it dry and put it back.

DO you notice it more right when you get in or more after you turn on the A/C /vent.?
