Inspection/emissions criteria for '82 150

In an effort to get my truck running right, my neighbor told me my Catalytic Converter was probably clogged up due to my carbeurator running so rich for the last while. Does anyone know if the Cat. Converter is required on an '82 in order to pass inspection? I know i dont have to pass an emissions test but do I still need my exhaust system to be intact to pass? Thanks for the help.

-Matt

Edit: Garland is in Dallas County so if anyone in Dallas is familiar with the regulations please share.

Yes, you have to pass emissions. I had to put a new cat (actually the whole exhaust system) back on mine (83 F100). $400 for mine, but that was from exhause manifold all the way back. Stock, nothing fancy.

You'll also have to have your Air pump on and in working condition. You have to continue to pass emissions until the vehicle is 25 years old.

I've always been told 24 years. The person I bought it from said it had it's final emmissions inspection. But... I did see on the DPS website where it said it was required for trucks 1-24 years old... So then next year, will I still have to have my exhaust system intact? or can I go without it and pass inspection? Thanks for our answer.

it's really 2 and 25. like stated above your truck must be 25yrs old not to be tested. 2 years since new cars and trucks come with a 2yr inspection.
