Belt Tensioner/lower idler pulley
I need help on my 1999 F-150 4.2 engine 2wd. My lower idler ( below alt ) died.
I left my truck out at campground. Came home and picked up new pulley and belt. I forgot how to drop tension on serpt. belt. Also the bottom idler is held on with Torx bolt or what? Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

hi john welcome. I dont remember what kind of bolt hold on the idler on, but it should be one that is in the middle of the pully. As far as releasing tension on the belt all you have to do is find the tensioner pully, and insert either a 3/8 drive or a 1/2 drive breaker bar (dont remember witch) in it and turn it away from the belt. that will let the tension off. I think you have to rotate it down, but not sure. The tensioner will only let you rotate it one way. If you dont know which one is the tensioner just look for a pully that is bolted to the block, and has an arm extened out with the pully on it. it should be the only pully with an arm or what not. I could tell you for sure where it is at, but I am in Iraq right now so I cant look at my truck for refference. GL and let me know if you need anymore help.
