need to tow my truck

I have a 77 F150 w/2wd/auto,and a 460....I am going to be moving 300 miles, and am going to be renting the biggest size moving truck. I would like to tow my truck so I only have to feed 1 pig as opposed to 2 (my wife drives a rice burner...we can get up there on 15 bucks)....

I have heard that it is bad to tow vehicles with auto trannies.....is this true? If it is, could I remove the driveshaft and be okay? any other suggestions?

thanks

On a C6 the front pump is turned only by the engine. Anything over a few miles could burn up parts.

schweeeeet.....this message board rocks!

thanks for the help!

Ah...I just though of one other thing.....I helped a buddy swap the motor on his 87 Cougar (5.0 with auto), and when we disconnected the drive shaft and started pivoting everything to get it out, all the tranny fluid dumped out....am I going to face the same thing? If so, what's the best way to get around it (other than using bailing wire and duct tape to rig a catch pan into place)...

Just buy yourself a cheap "plug" that goes on the tranny. They make them out of rubber/plastic and cost practically nothing. They are tapered so they fit a variety of trannys.

I always cut the driveshaft of vehicles I'm junking so as to get a plug for "free".

Why not just disconnect the drive shaft at the rear and tie it up to the frame using some bailing wire/strapping material. If you have enough holes in the bed, like me, it will be even easier!
