I can't answer your question but I can tell you that some of the best stopping vehicles I have ever owned have been disk/drum. rear brakes are so lightly loaded it makes little sence to beef 'em up.
Save your money for the prettier wheels or transmission.
the same conversion kits you use for bronco2 and rangers you can use for aerostars.
or you can just upgrade to an 8.8 axle with disks. more or less alomost the same price.
The only 8.8 truck axles with discs are the ones from the Explorer. Unfortunately, the rear suspension between the Aerostar and the Explorer (or any other truck) is quite different. Not impossible, of course, but it would take a bit of fabrication. Actually, it is quite similar to the suspension in the new Mustang (which Ford made such a big deal about). Maybe a Mustang axle? Anyone know how the width compares or the offset of the center section?
Ford has a convertion kit for the 8.8/9" diffs. But the stock # are the same as the Exp/Rangers. I'm doing that, using a set from a Explorer, this spring. I have all the parts, I have to make up a bracket for the Park brake, I will post the pics when I start, in March.
I thought the kit was for the 31T 8.8 and 9", which have bigger outer bearings and tubes then the 28T version does. I don't think you can use that kit, unless there's something I'm not aware of...
