Can you ID This part?
Hello all.
I have racked my brain for 2 days trying to find a water outlet for a 1983 Bronco II. The VIN says its an 1986 Ranger with a 2.8 liter and yet its insured as an 83 Bronco II (go figure) It also has a rebuilt VIN etched into the door post, so what It really is or has in it is all guess work.
I have gone through sevaeral books and have serched for the part number on the piece to no avail.
Can anybody Identify this part? Year, make, model or engine size would be greatly appriciated.
The part number stamped into the base is "83tf 8592-eb"

I would say its a t-stat houseing, but on the 2.8 the t-stat is in the bottom radiator hose. So i dont know what its called but it is where the top radiator hose and by pass hose go on the top of the 2.8 engine. The electrical plugs go to the temp guage on the inside{small one} and the computer{large one}.
If the engine has a carberator on it its a 2.8.If it has FI its a 2.9.

Well, no such thing as an 83 Bronco II. You "probably" have a 1983 2.8L Ranger engine. That is a thermostat housing with a gauge sensor (single post) and an emissions related sensor (either "bi-metal" temp switch or a temp. sensor) that goes to vacuum controls for the carb and dist. system.

Thankyou for all the replies but I may have misguided you as to my problem.
I know what it is and I know what the sensor and switch are but I cant find an application that uses this particular design.
Using "ALL DATA" I have scaned through 10 years of Rangers, Bronco II's, Mustangs, V-6's and 4 cyl ect. Most of the t-stat housings shown are ball shaped with 3 bolt holes and no sensors, some models wont show me a diagram. The Stant catalogue doesnt show this design anywhere.
If anyone has seen this particular design on a particular vehicle I would like to know the year make and model so I can get my neighbor back on the road.
Thanks for the help.

It is like a t-stat housing. It's off a 84 2.8 V-6. If you looked for t-stat housing for that model you would find a ball shaped unit with 3 bolts. That is because the t-stat is actually in the housing on the bottom of the engine where the bottom radiator hose goes on. It is ball shaped with 3 bolts holding it on. The one in the picture has no t-stat, it is used just for the sensor connections.

Well thanks everybody for the help but th mismatched VIN Numbers has proven the BII uninsurable and the woman I was helping has come completly unglued on the guy she bought it from. It has however been a learning experience for the both of us, For her to make sure she knows what she is buying and for me on BII cooling system configurations.
I sent out a Canada wide search for the water outlet and no results.
So for now its game over for that Frankenstiens monster.
Now Im onto a new search.
Anybody know of a good part number finder for vintage cars????

There are three housings on the 2.8. The UPPER which has the sensor(s), the LOWER OUTER on the waterpump where the t/stat is, and the LOWER INNER also on the pump, that the bypass hose connects to. These are several different types of uppers, since the 2.8 engine dates to the 1970 Mercury Capri 2.6 engine. However: 83TF is = 1983.
Housing part numbers used in 1983-1984 ONLY (the 2.8 housings have different part numbers in 1985)
Upper: E3TZ-8592-K / Gasket: D4RY-8255-A
Lower Front: E3TZ-8592-J
Lower Rear: E3TZ-8592-L
According to the Ford parts catalogs, ALL the 2.8 thermostats are in the lower front housing. The thermostat does NOT go into the upper housing. Ppl put them there, because when they remove the upper housing, and see there's no t/stat, they add one. Usually that cracks the upper housing.

Just noticed the date on this thread, but the following information may be helpful to some:
FORD did not etch VIN's any where. the VIN's were STAMPED.
