99 F250LD theft alarm sys question Start/Stalling
Just how common are “bad keys” or could it be the ignition switch itself? Read on as I thought I was just having trouble with my IAC valve:
Well guys went out after work to clean the T-Body on my truck. As luck would have it she was having stalling troubles troubles.
The truck would start and rev to 1500 RPM and then promptly die. No matter where I placed my foot on the throttle the struck stalled.
I confirmed the Fuel pressure to be 35-40lbs.
I confirmed when the truck stalls the injectors are still have a pulse, so it’s ignition related.
By simply flipping the ignition key around the truck starts and runs fine now. So, that said I’m to believe the factory Ford “anti-theft” is at fault.
There is not 2nd alarm tied in, just the factory one. I only have 1 key and remote for the truck <2nd owner> so I have to ask, do these keys go bad commonly?
Thanks
Tommy

So Far, so good sense the last time I had this trouble on the 5th.
Question, do I have to have a "locksmith" make me a new key <I assume it's the key that’s at fault>. I currently only have 1 key and 1 remote.
Or am I stuck going back to the dreaded <$$$$> dealer.
If it’s a matter of just cutting a key I have a machine at work and making a copy is no trouble. But somehow I doubt all these keys are the same and must be “coded” by the latest greatest OBD <insert version here> scanner.
Thanks!

You are right about the coded key. Dealer is about the only place to get them. Although hopefully someone on here will chime in. I think I saw that somebody knew of another place to get the OEM style keys and programmed them. But for now, the dealer is the only place that I know of. You can make your own with a standard cutting machine, but it will only open the locks. Won't do much of anything else.

Go to ebay I bought them on ebay 2 for 15.00$ and one from the dealer for 30.00. Make sure they are the programable ones. and since you only have one key the dealer will have to program the key for you. Once you have two keys you can program them yourself but you have to have two programable keys. Just a not when I received the keys from Ebay a went to a lock smith and he said he carried the reprogamable keys as well just a though. but he as well said the dealer had to programthe new key if you only had one.

I found this website awhile back on here. The keys are alot cheaper than the dealer and you can do it all yourself(you have a key cutter).
