Exhaust-Confused but happy

I was at the local muffler shop thinking of getting Flowmasters like I have on my 95 F150 I-6. The guy was nice enough and actually had a truck just like mine with FlowMaster 40 series I believe, sounded good but wasn't just was I was looking for in tone. He said that I could get better overall sound(loudness with a deep tone) with a glass pack over the Flows.
Well I went with the glasspack and wide tips exiting out the side behind the tires. It is nice and deep with the right noise level as to not tick the neighbors off--too much

Any idea why a cheap glasspack is better sounding than a expensive Flowmaster?

Thanks

-J

Better sounding is relative. I personally love the loud and deep rumble I get from my exhaust. Some people prefer a slightly more mellowed out sound. On a side note, the longer you drive that truck now, the louder it will get because the glass fill will eventually burn out. What many people do is take a cheap glass pack, fill it with gas and light it on fire to burn out all of the glass before they install it. Makes for a better sound it seems.

I agree with the deep rumble sound. I had always heard a "cheap trick" was to heat up the muffler and shoot water into it to break the glass.

Not real sure about that one though.

As maticuno said...sounding better is relative. It's nothing more than an opinion of what you like. Ahh well... BUT!!! If you like what you have, then I guess you found the right setup!
