Steering box overhaul

I am in the process of rebuilding the steering box on my '56 F-100. I have the bushings reamed nicely, a new worm gear and a sector gear/shaft in good condition. I had the worm bearing pre-load set just right, and went ahead and slipped the sector shaft in there.

Now all the instructions I am reading suggest I should have 4.5 turns from lock to lock. In the shop, mine wants to go almost 5.5 turns. Has anybody gone through this? Is it 4.5 turns when installed in the truck? Seems like it's pretty hard to goof this up. What am I missing?

It's normal for the box to have more turns out than when installed. It allows for adjusting everthing in the steering and suspension.Jeff
