Well folks, true to form.....I took about three steps forward, and two steps back again.....I FINALY got my console built for my 53, installed my Jacobs Electronics ignition, modified my spare tire holder to fit my new rims, and installed the stereo......I even fabricated a spare tire holder for my trailer. THEN when I went to change my front hubs around, I realized that ALL the brake hardware needs to be replaced....not just the shoes and drums....But the springs, wheel cyl's, and the adjusters. As well as the backing plates.......EVERYTHING. The bearings are the only constant that does not need replacing....but while I am in there, and right before a 3000 mile trip, I figured why not. It would be penny wise and pound foolish not to. But ARRRRGH........Then I BROKE the passenger side door glass........Uggh......another $50.

I'm going to go out into the garage and work like heck on my truck this weekend. It should be a great weekend as it appears that Murphy has finally grown bored with just sitting around my house watching me NOT working on my truck and has moved on.
The last vengeful act of the little bugger was to cause the shift selector shaft seal in my trans to start leaking (leaking is an understatement here). On a brighter not I did remember correctly and the seal can be replaced without removing the trans pan. It takes a special tool that KD Tools sells. I was able to find the tool locally and will be picking it up this afternoon.
I'm sorry to hear about your hassles (especially the door glass) but on the other hand, I'm glad Murphy has moved on.
Don't get too discouraged, it happens to all of us

I'm not discouraged at all....I have found the best way to deal with that darned Murphy, is to just keep plugging along or give up. Well, the latter is not an option. I (for some odd reason) just never have and cant now give up on anything. It's my disease I guess. Nevergiveupiteus......Darn it....Had it ever since I can remember. Oh well.....When this happens though, I find myself more determined. Sometimes it backfires, but usually, I end up with a lot more done. Only about 29 more days till the big trip......Whew.....This will be a toughy. I have replaced the tie rod ends on the front end, but found the king pins to be bad on one side....and I have no way to replace them right now....So I guess it will be 55 MPH for me the whole way.

Just before you leave give that king pin a shot of grease, it will tighten it up more than you might think. About not giving up......two men, one thinks he can, and the other thinks he can't....their both right. XFM
