Yea Art, let me know what you find out, I wouldn't mind putting one in my 51 if it would fit. The 300 6 seems pertty plentiful, and priced good up here.

A little work w/ a Sheet Metal Hammer should do the trick, if necessary.

Make that 300 fit. You won't be sorry! Those engines were built to last. Very heavy-duty construction with loads of torque. Check out the in-line engine section of this site if you haven't already. There are many stories about these engines going 2 or 3 hundred thousand miles. Good luck, Jag

Is it really that much longer than a 223? I have considered putting the 300 in my 55 F-600 and I'm sure it would fit since it came with a 223.

Conculsion was the 300 is too long in length and additional depth would be required in the firewall to get it to fit. The radiator can't go far enough forward due to the hood nose width. But I'm an optimist I believe almost any swap can be accomplished if you want to do it bad enough. Myself I look for the easy way out, which usually winds up being a dark side install.

I would sure like to find that discussion I was in awhile back. It could have been on the Inliners site, I will look over there. I can't remember what they said the length was. I just read the news and move on with thoughts of keeping the 226 Flathead in it.

Why don't we measure and find out, I have a 226 that I can measure from point A to B. Lets say from the fan pully back to the where the bell housing mounts? Or any other point the motor is not mounted in a truck.

My 300 is about 34 inches from the flat where the bell housing mounts to the flat of the water pump. This is little more than a guess as it is an EFI, and still in the truck. If we need a better measurment I can try again, but from the bottom this time.

also, my 223 is 30 1/2 from the bell housing to the front of the crank. I don't have the water pump on it.

I Got A Rough Measurement And Think The 300 Is Only 2 Or 3" Longer Than My Cleveland.i'll Get A Better Idea Next Week.if That Is Right It Should Fit.
