Expedition moonroof issue
Hi Everyone,
Just joined to find out if my local Ford dealer is trying to rip me off. I have a 2000 Expedition EB w/ power moonroof that is stuck in the open position. Dealer says that switch, motor, and track are all bad which seems to me to be a statistical impossibility. Wants $2200 to repair. Also says that the moonroof cannot be just closed and disconnected.
thoughts, help? anyone?
Chris

Nothing in the owners manual. I checked, there is no access to the moonroof which is why it is so expensive. I am being charged $1200 for the removal of the ENTIRE headliner, and another $1000 for new motor and track.
Like your handle, another repair like this and I may change from haveaford to hadaford pretty quickly
Thanks

The headliner is easy! I have had mine out 2 times. The first time it took about 1 1/2 hrs to get it out. The second time it only took about 45 min. There should be an access in the headliner just behind the sunroof. It just clips into place. The motor is right under the access. But if not and you have to remove the entire headliner let me know.... I'll give you some advice. It's not as bad as it looks! Yes there are alot of peices to remove, but it's really not that bad!

ISSUE:
Some 2000-2003 Expedition/Navigator, 2001-2003 F-Series Under 8500, and 2003 F-Series over 8500 vehicles may exhibit a rattle from the roof opening panel (moonroof) area, a failure of the roof opening panel to open properly, or a water leak from the roof opening panel. This may be due to the water trough being separated from the trough guide on either side, as a result of a broken trough guide.

I hava 1999 Navigator , there is a moonroof/window vent RELAY located behind the driver seat, inside the side panel . Relay is a SPDT type which used several places in the Navigator. It switches power in and out to the moonroof and vent electronics, on my 1999 the 12v IN is on the red/blk wire, the switched 12v out is on the pink wire of the relay. Pull relay out, and supply 12V from the battery to the pink wire - (this supplies power to the moonroof/vent assembles). This will test to see if this an issue with power going to the assembles , it will also demonstrate the actions of the assembles onced enerigized.
