Question Airbag replacement????

I just received this new (used) airbag to replace the one that saved my life a while back. I spoke to the sales guy who sold it to me and he told me to disconnect the battery, let it sit for about 1 hour then attach the new bag and reconnect the battery and you should be fine.

Keep in mind that the passengers side bag was turned off during this process and during the accident, so the original is still intact.

Now I had heard that you also need this electronic component when replacing the airbag, but this last a salesman said i didn't need it. He said by disconnecting the battery it resets the computer and once re-attaching the new airbag it will recognize it and everything would go back to normal?????????

I did as instructed and the airbag light remains on. When I first turn the truck on it will flash 1 long and the 9 short flashes, any idea what that means and is it true what I was told about reseting the computer by disconnecting the battery? Do I need the electronic component??????

Thanks for any help you can give me. Sorry about rambling.

if i remember correctly modern airbags are numbered with a special serial number so as to only work with one car. it is to prevent theft just like the radio theft feature. maybe contact ford.

So I take it that's what the flashing means. That I have the wrong or incompatible airbag.

Just my .02, but I would let the pro's handle this one. One of my customers in Knoxville,Tn., makes the containers that hold the connections, and the explosives that deploy the airbags. Those things are dangerous, and if it goes off while you are tinkering with it, you may live to suffer the consequences. Those cylinders are tested to 10,000 psi in a special machine, and when one fails the test sequence, it sounds like a small bomb went off. Not to mention, if all goes apparently well, no lights or anything, and you crash again(God forbid) and it doesn't work, well you said the last one saved your life, I would want to know that it was right.Again, just one man's opinion .

You're probably right. I'm going to call the people I bought it from and see about how to get this right.
