what trany with what truck
On this site I've seen 7700lbs f150's with a 5.4 engine and a 4r70w transmision in them and my 7700 4x4 has the 5.4 but has a r4100w tranny. What's the scoop with that.I didn't think any 5.4 engine trucks had the small car tranny in them. The 5.4 puts out alot of torque for the 4r70w tranny???Is it just a 5.4 4x4 thing or is it an option?????

Well, I have a 2003 Screw 4x4 with a 5.4, and a Tow Package (Tranny Cooler). But I have the 4r70w. I can tell by the door jam sticker. Plus my dad is a retired Ford Mech. He could tell because the pan on the 70 tranny is much smaller. I basically have the same tranny in my '03 Screw as I do in my '92 Grand Marquis.
I'm guessing as long as you aren't pushing that towing limit or raising hell offroad, the 70 tranny is fine. I think the upgraded tranny only came with the optional packages. I don't think it was an option for the Screw's though.

I have a 98 F150 SC 4X2 with the trailer towing package. It has a E4OD. The pan has 20 bolts and looks exactly the same as my dad's 01 7700 SC 4X2 with a 4R100. The picture I have of the 4R70W the pan is more square and has 12 bolts, possible 1 or 2 more as there is text over top of the picture.
