1958 engine ID??

I decided to get a few speed parts for my wife's 1958 F100 6-cylinder, such as a header, a tripe 1bbl intake, and a cam (or have hers reground??). The problem I ran into is - I can't decode the casting numbers I found on the engine.

Here are the numbers I found -
engine block:
EBP6015L and OE12

exhaust manifold:
EBP9403A and OE13

Does anyone know whether the "EBP" provides a production year, or if the
"OE in the date code indicates 1960 or 1970?

Any help is appreciated.

'57-'60s Blocks, Heads & Cranks can be I.D'd using these;
Block#EBP-H, EBP-L
Head#EPB-D,COAE
Crank#EBF,EBP

You cqan go here to cheque the engine out by viewing the pix posted.

Thanks Colonel,

I have visited that site several times. In fact, it was the first one I went to to ID this engine. I know it's not a 215 because the distributor is not in the middle. But I can't seem to differentiate betwseen the 223 and the 262 (both have the distributor on the front passenger side of the block.

Can you tell me what the valve (rocker arm) cover looks like on the 223 vs the 262, if viewed from above?

Edwin's site has been a great help in the past.

Well seen as how 262's Rather Rare, I doubt very seriously that you've one, I've been looking for one for over 5 years now, But, here goes anyway.

The 262 I-6 has the Post '61 8 bolt Pattern V/C as opposed to the pre '60 2 Center Stud Bolt Pattern V/C,
the '61-'63 version has the Petrol Pump mounted on the Passenger Side of the Time Gear Cover & in '64 it was placed back @ the center of the block where all 223 I-6's are found,
It has Timing Gears instead of a Timing Chain,
Re-enforcement Ribbing Low on the Passenger Side of the Block just above the O/P,
a Carberator Heater Plate placed in between the Carberator & the Manifold w/ Water Lines running back to the 2 Water Pump,
Oil Fill Spout is located about mid-way on the V/C,
Positive Crank Case Ventilation as opposed to a Road Down Draft Tube,
Block Casting # starts w/ a "CE".

Cheers

My engine has the 8-bolt pattern for the valve cover.
The fuel pump is mounted in the center of the passenger side block.
Can't see any "extra" reinforcement ribbing on the passenger side.
No carburetor heat plate.
Oil filler is on the valve cover (front).
Has positive crankcase ventilation to top rear of valve cover (no downdraf tube).
Block casting # starts with "BP"
Doesn't have the "extra" block reinforcing rib on the "V" found behind the exhaust manifold/exhaust pipe hookup on a 262.

Since the casting date code is 0E12 (May 12, 1960??) and 0E13 (May 13, 1960??), I believe I have a 1960 223ci I6 with 8-bolt valve cover and PCV in a 1958 F100.

Guess I will have to pull the head to find out for sure.

Thanks for your help, and your patience,
