Apparently the T/S is 6 speed ready. I read it in a post on this site that it shifts up through 1,2,3,4,6 and down 6,5,3,2,1. Once they change the cogs its and adjust shift point software you have a 6 speed. I am sure it will be around for a while. I have never seen this detail in a tech manual to back it up though.
I don't understand why none of the tuners for the 6.0 didn't change the T/S to a 6 speed. If the tuners can adjust everything else on the truck, why can't it adjust the pattern for the gears?

Some can. I've presently got two files that utilize both 4th and 5th. The problem is that there is realistically no performance gain- 4th gear is 1.096 ratio, and 5th is 1.00- relatively no difference. The shift in between is even more negligable an RPM change than converter lockup, and there just isn't much point.
Now, if the forward planetary geometry was altered to deepen 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 4th could be feasible in the area of a 1.2xx ratio gear, while dropping 5th to a slight overdrive (.9x range).
