I have a 99 f150 4x4 w/the sport package - whatever that is besides decals! I have 93,700 miles on it and I have done usual maintenance oil, etc... front brakes once, one battery this summer (103 degress), fixed the odometer and the leaky rear window yesterday with instructions from this site. I also had the door crack but it was under warranty and a four wheel drive defect while it was under warranty. I bought it in 2000 with 26,000 miles on it. I'm thinking of selling it because it is payed for and I want to buy a cheap ($1500) truck and use the rest of the cash to get out of debt. Then I'll buy a newer one with cash later. Dave Ramsey at www.daveramsey.com has got me ready to be debt free after taking his class at church.

Well, that sounds like a plan and I wouldn't want to discourage you, but you've now got a reliable truck. Unfortunately with 94,000 miles on it, you won't be able to sell it for much. Then when you get the cheap $1500 truck, you take a good chance of having costly problems.
Wouldn't it make more sense to take the cash as you get it to pay off your debts instead of saving it for the newer one? You'll have to discipline yourself to actually do it, though.
Incidentally, my 2001 also has the sport package, and it included better wheels, bigger tires, body colored bumpers, minor trim upgrades, and a fancier interior.

1997 F-150 with 92,000 miles. Replaced Shocks front and back with Bielsteins, brake pads and shoes twice - new front power slot rotors and OEM rear drums - A/C is dead and need over $1,000 to fix it, and I already spent $900 once... Auto Trans Power Purge - Diff Fluid Change - New plugs all around and 2 COP's (coil on plug) went already - Ball joints twice (OEM first, now Moog M2's) - U-joints on Drive Shaft - Wheel Bearings - Serp. Belt - Tires obviously - and also had to replace a cracked leaf in the rear leaf springs. Is this all routine maint.?

Why is your A/C dead, or i mean whats wrong with it thats gonna cost a 1000,00 to fix it? As for routine maintnence ide say no. I have a 97 and havent had to do some of the things you did with yours,Not sure how well your truck was takin care of or if you bought it used and the previous owners doing to it. I bought mine used but looked it over well and the delaer stood behind there warranty on it(And i held them to it till the day it ran out.lol) What was the auto trans power purge about. was that a flushing trans thing or a part?

Hey Code_Red - I got it brand new in 97 - I have treated it like a baby since the day i got it, 3k mile oil changes with filter using fully synthetic Mobile1 - never less than perfect parts - and I do routine checks on everything annually - The Automatic Trans "Power Purge" I got from Aamco Transmissons for 100$- they flush new ATF fluid under high pressure to push ALL the old fluid out and make sure it gets filled with all new and clean fluid. When it comes to the A/C... First it was the Evaporator and you have to take apart the ENTIRE dash and all that crap, so most of the money was labor ($900), now just a year later, it blows warm, they did a dye check again for free, and said that now i need to replace the compressor caus its leaking, the hoses are leaking, and the condeser is bad too, so they quoted me $1,000... i was just smacked with a crappy a/c system I guess... I live in the Chicago area, so the summers are hot sometimes but not TOO badly, and now that its fall/winter time, i wont need it, so to hell with the A/C... I think my truck was a Monday or a Friday Truck... you know how that saying goes... never buy a vehicle that was built on Monday or Friday, Monday the employees are tired and dont care... Fridays, they rush during assembly and mess things up... O well, thats life i guess

Mr. BSS
yeah, I could just pay as I go, but I'm on a tight timeline to achieve to goals I want by the time I want. I've been told by several people that I could probably get $10,000 or $11,000 for it because it is still really nice looking and it does run great. I won't give it away, I'll keep it and go with plan 2 before I just let someone have it. These trucks are pulling a good price around here though.
