Diesel with gas tach?

Diesel with gas tach?
I Have an '84 F250 4X4 with the 6.9L. It currently does not have a tach. I would like to install a factory tach. I believe that the tach's in these were electronic. My question is, Does the tach I install have to be out of a diesel or will the tach from the same era gas truck also work?

The stock tach is no longer available from Ford.
So the only place you can find one is a salvage yard.
Also the entire insturment cluster will need to be changed, if it did not have a tach the printed circuit on the back of the cluster is different.
Also you need a sending unit for the tach from Ford, it is still available.
I did have the wiring for the tach in the stock wiring harness on my 86 though.
