Greetings,
Looking for some input. Got a 1997 F350 7.3 powerstroke. I replaced fuel pump, cleaned tanks, replaced fuel filter. Truck still chokes, surges etc. did research on this site and then replaced CPS. Truck now will not turn over.I am at my witts end here. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Rob

also try checking battery voltage when cranking. i have seen these trucks crank and crank but never start because voltage was droping below 10 volts. without atleast ten volts you wont get any diesel thus it wont start. if it smokes as it cranks then you are getting diesel if it cranks with no smoke then there is no fuel going in. just a thought hope it helps.

From your original post it sounds like it at least started before you replaced the CPS, but ran poorly. Then after replacing the CPS, it would not start/run at all. I would still check the CPS part number. There is a split in the '97 engine serial numbers that makes a difference which CPS part number to use. See the Article/specs section, "replacing a CPS sensor" for the engine serial number split and the correct Ford and International part numbers. Just my .02 worth.
The local International dealer parts person was not even aware of this until I asked him about it when I purchased my CPS. He said "I always just give evryone this one". He looked it up in his parts book and there the engine serial number number split info was, he was just unaware of it. Just by luck, he was going to give me the right part.
