tie rod over knuckle conversion on a 77 F250

Has anyone upgrade their steering by using the tierod over the knucle set up? I am going to convert my hydraulic power assist steeing to a 78/79 style and I was looking at my truck last night and it looks like the drag link would touch the springs if it were over the knuckle.

I assume this is a 4x4 - I'm not sure about the Dana 44 front end but on my D60 the springs will rub the tie rod if you put it above the knuckles. This can be done on an F150 but F250's and F350's will not clear the springs. Any particular reason you want to flip the tie rod?

I was just looking at the bulletproof steering website and was curious but know that I think about it I see what you are saying.

The only advantage to the over knuckle tie rod setup is for rock crawlers, they don't have as large a chance of bending their tie rod when they smash their axle into a rock. Even at that a better option is to go to a true "hy-steer" setup where you have arms off of the tops of the knuckles that hold the tie rod and a lot of times this will be done with the tie rod behind the axle instead of in front. All that being said, if you don't plan to bash your axle into stuff you'll never have need for it.
