Priming a 2.5L L4 SFI SOHC 4 cyl
Hi Folks,
I have a 2000 Ranger with a 2.5L(153cu in) L4 SFI SOHC 4 cyl engine in it. The other day it would not start. It cranked but no start. My question is how can you prime(pour gasoline into) or spray some start starting fluid into this engine?
Its not like what I have been accustomed to where you remove the top portion of the air cleaner and either pour a little gasoline in it or spray starting fluid into the carb. I know this engine is Fuel Injected and uses a throttle body. The air cleaner is situation behind the right front headlight and has a long, large diameter, hose running to the throttle body. So how do you prime or spray some starting fluid in this engine? Can it be done?
Thanks.......

I'd stick with starting fluid rather than raw gasoline, but it's very rare for an EFI engine to need it. You must have something wrong somewhere.
If you do need to use starting fluid, just open up the airbox and pull out the A/F element, then give a quick shot into the tube and crank 'er up. You can reassemble the aibox after it starts (if it does). The starting fluid will carry all the way up that long tube, no problem. Just don't use too much!
