Question No power in my 1990 Ford Ranger 2.9

I have a 1990 Ford Ranger XLT with a 2.9 V6 resently I've lost power, on a flat road it seemed fine but a slit hill and the engine starts lossing power. I've changed Plugs, Plug wires, Cap, Rotor pickups inside the distributor. I checked to see if the cat was pluged and it's not. From the AutoX Ray scanner I received codes 41, No exhaust gas oxygen switching detected alwaya indecating lean 13, No RPM control cannot control RPM low during self idle test or idle control onopertive. Can some one tell me in which direction to throw the next pile of money @

Sorry I'm not a mechanic or an moderator but I recommend that you try posting this in either the Ranger section or better yet under the engine section for the above engine. I think you will get a better response from those sections. Let me rephrase that, I think you will get "more" responses in those sections.

How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter?

Possibly an O2 sensor. Try checking the wiring from the sensor near the exhast pipes. It could be melted. From what I have read it is a common problem.

Here's the Engine forum. Its about 1/2 way down in all of the threads in the main forum section.

Looks like you got some help locally. Good look and hope things work out for you.

Ranger losing power

I had an 89 Ranger with the 2.9L. At one point it would lose power intermittently. Be cruising along just fine and all of a sudden it'd feel like a really strong wind was blowing right at me. Was in college at the time and didn't have anyplace to work on it...and didn't even have a clue to know where to start looking for the problem. Took it to the Ford dealership to hook up to their diagnostics. They found out that my fuel pump would lose pressure...said it'd be fine at the 35-40 or so psi and then it'd drop down to the 20-25psi range...ie my loss of power. I changed out the pump and it ran fine (well until that pump died, but that's another story) after that.
Don't know if that's your problem, but might be something worth checking.

Thanx for the information Akfishinguy wish we had a ford dealership here in Togiak Alaska. but the nearest one is in Anchorage, can't afford the freight to send the truck.
Out here, we just pull code and start buying parts. I've gotten a great deal of information on this site, which has made me more informed on the EFI system. I grew up in the 60s when it was more simplier, well not really fuel, air and fire. I bought the truck from a family here that drove it; but not very much and not hard with few problems. few weeks after I really drove it around, this problem began, I order an 02 sencor from anchorage, I already changed the MAP and what ever one that on the fire wall. Everything but that 02

throt two things to try ... one, give it a vacum leak... in other words pull a vacum hase lose driive it ,and see if that changes anything , ...two, check to see if you are getting signal to and from your throttle positon sensor... three, pull you o2 sensor and chech for back preasure ... you may have a plugged cat, as a matter of fact , Id bet on it.in one of your posts you said the pluggs were fouling , thats not lean , no matter what the scanner says . my 2cs , bob P.S. If any of this works or doesnt, let me know, I have other tricks I like and need 390 parts also, bob
