I've got an 02 F-150 XL sport with 255-16-70's I'd like to have a wee bit more width say a 60 or 65 and not loose gas mileage or rub inside my fenders. So my question is any of yous know about tires. I'm pretty conservative on my likes. But I'd like a little more sport look to it. Yes I know I'll pay more but just looking at my options

I have 285/75/16's on my '02 F-150 Sport. and they don't rub at all. I did lose city milage, but I think I gained hwy milage, less RPM's, not sure though, havn't got a chance to calculate it yet.

I have 265/75/16's (32") on my XLT 4x4, and there is still room to go with 33's without rubbing. A larger tire will probably make you lose a little MPG around town, but on the highway, it will increase your MPG.

 

a 295/60/16 will be 1.6 inches wider and less than 1/8 of an inch shorter.

I dont know how anyone got a 285 or bigger tire on there f150. I have tried numerous times at the shop. I worked at firestone for 3 years, and I cant tell you how many times we tried to put 285/75R 16s on an F150. everytime they would rub on the inside of the sway bar and stuff. I tred it on my 03 4X4 and it almost fit but once again in sharp turns it would rub. granted you would probably never turn that sharp driving, but it did rub. I also tried it on my 00 f150 with the same results. The only way we could get one to fit was with a small body lift. other than that the biggest tire we could put on at stock ride higth was a 265/75R16. Witch is what I use now. GL

I got mine put on at Discount, they checked one on the front before the put the rest on to make sure they'd fit. they're BFG A/T ko, 285/75/16's. and I've had no problems.

EDIT: I should mention I have an '02 F-150 SPORT, I know the back is lifted slightly, I dunno about the front. that could be the difference.

 

I put 285's on my 97 4x4 and I lost a little in city mileage and did gain a bit ion the highway too.

 

My truck is a sport as well. The problems that I have ran into putting 285's is not in the rear. There is plenty of room in the rear. Its the front. not because of higth. The tire fits under the truck. Its just when you turn the wheel all the way one direction or the other it rubs. I know you would need to turn that sharp most of the time, but I just like to have that ability when I need it. In fact I have put 285's on a 2001 F-150 extendedcab. It looked good, but when I went to back it out of the shop, I turnd the wheel all the way when exiting the shop there it was that real bad rubbing sound. I have tried to put Duller A/T revos and Duller M/T's in a 285/7516 on f-150's with the same result.

The 295 60's are wider but the height is about the same so they may clear ok.
