A guy at work has a 87 ranger with a 2.3. He wants to know if he can take a motor out of a 93-95, put his old head on it and not have to modify anything else. He doesn't want to change computers or Anything else.
I'm sure he can get away with a 93-94 engine without a hassle, most definitely the ALD diagnostic version up to 1992. 95-later have extra sensors in possibly different spots that might make unnecessary sweat over the swap.
The only problem might be if the new ranger engine has the two spark plugs per cylinder, then you would have to re wire everything. Im not sure when they changed over to the two spark plug design, but i know for sure in 96 they did because i was going to do the same thing, but settled for a rebuilt 88 2.3 that i put in my 87.
