Removing Radio, broken clips, how to remove dash?

I may be changing the radio in my X. I have a removal tool, but the tabs/clips on one side have already been damaged. I have tried and tried to get radio out with no luck. Is my only option removing the dash? If so what is the process and how hard is it. Thanks.
