Vintage Air and 56 Elec Wiper Linkage

Is it just me, or has anyone else found interference between the vintage air a/c unit and the passenger side wiper linkage? Looks like the a/c can only go in one way and match up to the old blower motor hole in the dash where the coolant and a/c lines pass through. My wiper linkage has some interference with the top of the a/c case and drags across the plastic in a nasty way. I am studying how to modify the linkage arm by putting in a slight upward bow of about 1", but keeping the same overall linkage arm length. It won't be pretty, but only I will know it is there. Any feed back from GEN II Vintage Air users?

I put the Gen II in my 56 and I don't recall any interference with the wiper arm but I'll take a look at it again to see how much clearance I do have and let you know. You might want to put some power to the unit before you install it in the dash to make certain the solenoid (servo) valves are working. I found after installation that the one controlling the heater is not closing and now I have to do some diagnostics to see if it is the solenoid valve or the switch that is bad. At this stage of the game it will be a real PITA if I have to change the solinoid valve.

PITA my @$^

Guys, I'm very interested in this thread as I am closing in on installation of an OLD Air unit [chosen because it uses the stock holes and leaves my glove box in-tact] so I'd like to know what comes of your experience.

I ended up modifying the RH wiper linkage arm to get additional clearance to the a/c case. I tested it and it has about an inch clearance throughout the travel. Now all I need is a new bushing and a new clip for attaching the arm to the wiper blade pivot on the passenger side.

I used the specialty remote mount wiper kit as sold by mid-fifty. It has a flexible shaft drive and you can mount the motor over on the kick panel.(either side) It worked for me. Wayne
